Dr Alex Bols

Deputy CEO

Dr Alex Bols works closely with the CEO in developing and managing all aspects of the organisation’s mission and strategy. He leads on a number of policy areas including: quality assurance, international and immigration issues, teacher education; university governance, climate change and sustainability and free speech.

He sits on a number of sector-wide committees including the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment, HEFCW’s Quality Assessment Committee, Home Office’s Education Advisory Group, UUKi International Strategic Advisory Board, observes the AdvanceHE Board and provides the secretariat for the UUK/GuildHE Teacher Education Advisory Group (TEAG).

Alex is an experienced school and university governor. He has been on the board of governors at Writtle University College for over three years having also been vice chair of the board at the University College of Osteopathy. He was a school governor for 16 years chairing two primary schools and a secondary school as well as helping establish a Federation of two secondary schools, two primary schools and a Teaching School Alliance.

Alex has recently completed his Doctor of Education (EdD) at UCL’s Institute of Education exploring perceptions and perspectives of effective student representation. In his spare time, Alex is a keen theatre-goer and traveller and has recently completed his tenth marathon.
