GuildHE is launching a new series of briefings looking at the contribution of a range of institutions that are often not featured in the national spotlight –from the highly specialised subject-specific institutions, to smaller institutions with just a few thousand students to larger institutions with a particular focus, whether delivering part-time courses or celebrating their religious roots.

We believe that it is only by understanding and valuing the full diversity of the UK’s higher education providers that we will continue to build a truly world-leading higher education system.

The first briefing focuses on student experiences in these institutions. This briefing showcases the different experiences that students can have and the impact that this can have on their engagement with their learning. This first briefing looks at three key elements student engagement, employability and experience.

This briefing builds on a range of blogs that we have done on different aspects of student experience and engagement including a new blog from Tom Lowe and Cassie Shaw at the University of Winchester on student engagement as well as my blog on student engagement in smaller institutions and Dan Whitby, Students’ Union President from University St Marks and St John on student views on governance.
