Universities UK, Guild HE, MillionPlus, the Russell Group, University Alliance and UKCISA have jointly produced a briefing document outlining how significant improvements could be made to the student visa route as the system is reviewed by government. It sets out principles for reform and also calls for specific actions to be taken across three key areas:

  • Improving the international student experience
  • Reducing the administrative burden
  • Increasing the reliability, transparency and accountability of the immigration system

Gordon McKenzie, Chief Executive, GuildHE, said,

“Many international students choose to study in smaller or more specialist institutions but it is important that the regulatory burden on these institutions is proportionate to the risk and not – as it is now – based on arbitrary thresholds.”
