This 90-minute session is designed for GuildHE member institutions and provides a clear, practical introduction to generative AI in higher education. It brings together an overview of how generative AI works, how it is already being used in teaching and learning, and what responsible use looks like in practice.
The session explores realistic use cases for academic and professional staff, including planning, assessment design, feedback, accessibility, and supporting student learning. Alongside practical opportunities, it addresses the ethical, legal, and institutional considerations that matter in higher education, such as academic integrity, bias and data protection.
Participants will leave with a shared understanding of AI’s role in higher education, practical ideas they can apply immediately, and greater confidence to engage in informed discussions and decision-making about AI within their institution.
