Two GuildHE institutions picked up awards at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMA) in Mayfair last night. With 264 entries across 18 categories, the highly competitive awards celebrate the outstanding leadership, team work and business skills within higher education institutions.
The award for ‘Outstanding Student Admissions Team’ went to York St. John University at the event attended by over 1000 people from the higher education sector. York St. John’s award highlights the professionalism and values-led approach of the University’s Admissions and Liaison team in their outreach, visitor welcome and admissions work. Over the last eighteen months York St. John has experienced a growth of almost 40% in its applications and of 30% in its open day visits, handled by the team and a group of dedicated student ambassadors.
The University of Cumbria were judged to have run the ‘Recruitment Campaign of the Year’. Their success was put down to their ‘In Your Own Time’ campaign to broaden the appeal of part-time study to a wider audience. The campaign led to more than 1000 additional part-time students joining this year.
Commenting on the success, GuildHE Chief Executive, Alice Hynes said,
“Much emphasis is placed on celebrating academic and research success, so it is important not to forget the contribution of administrative teams in higher education institutions and the difference they make to the student experience. GuildHE is extremely proud to see two of its members excelling in this area and extends warm congratulations to the University of Cumbria and York St. John University staff for this significant achievement”.
