From 14-20 June GuildHE will be supporting the first ever ‘Universities Week’ – a national campaign, to highlight higher education’s often unsung and unheard success stories. One hundred universities have signed up to take part in the week, which will include local events to showcase the work of universities and recent research activity.

Alice Hynes, CEO of GuildHE, commented, “This is a great way of challenging public misconceptions and highlighting the essential role of the UK’s higher education providers for the economy and for society as a whole. But the campaign is not just about the work of Universities; it’s also about the University Colleges, specialist HE providers as well as other colleges that make a considerable contribution to the UK’s education provision.

“At a time when higher education is facing severe cuts in funding, it is more important than ever to recognise the value of universities and their impact on local and national economies, culture, sport, health, the environment and much more.

“This is demonstrated by GuildHE’s range of members, who include small and specialist institutions. GuildHE institutions are noted for their high level vocational courses and strong links with industry, in delivering products and professionals in areas including health, teaching and agriculture as well as the creative industries.”
