This introductory session explores how the Vitae Researcher Development Framework 2025 and RDF Planner can support researchers to take a more intentional, reflective and evidence-informed approach to their professional development.

The Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) is an internationally recognised route map for researchers’ professional development that describes the competencies - knowledge, behaviours, skills and attributes - of effective researchers.

The session will begin with an overview of Vitae’s role in supporting researchers and will signpost key resources for further exploration. Through a practical demonstration of the Planner, participants will then explore how the RDF 2025 capabilities can help them recognise strengths, capture achievements, identify development priorities, set meaningful goals and plan their next career and professional development steps. By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Gain an overview of Vitae’s role in supporting researchers.
  • Understand the purpose of the RDF and how it supports researcher development.
  • Explore how the RDF and RDF Planner can support reflection, career planning
    and practical next steps.
