A new study by policy consultancy Public First – reported by The Observer newspaper – has found that the government is “drastically underestimating” the impact of the proposed international student levy on the UK higher education market.
CEO Dr Brooke Storer-Church has responded, setting out GuildHE’s concerns.
"GuildHE is deeply concerned by the impact of the proposed international student levy on the UK higher education market.
Analysis by Public First confirms our suspicions that the international student market is unlikely to bear the additional cost and will damage student recruitment. International students bring significant benefits to the UK, both economically and culturally, which is in part what makes our sector world-leading.
An international levy would not improve the quality of higher education, but may indeed harm it."
