Today, the Office for Students (OfS) has announced its decisions on the principles, scope and structure of a reformed Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and integrated quality system.

Our Director of Policy and Strategy Dr Kate Wicklow, FRSA commented on the announcement, saying:

GuildHE welcomes the move toward a more integrated regulatory system, and we are pleased to see the OfS take on board sector feedback on how to strengthen the exercise. By ensuring the provider submission allows for genuine, contextual evidence, it mitigates the potential for the exercise to fail to value the diversity of our sector, especially given the limitations of metrics for small cohorts.

We still have a number of concerns, however, including the ongoing narrative surrounding ‘Bronze’, which has the potential to unfairly penalise institutions because our regulatory thresholds are set at a world-class standard.
