When generative AI can produce plausible essays in seconds, how can specialist universities protect the value and integrity of their degrees whilst supporting students and managing staff workload?

Building on our recent feature exploring how Plymouth Marjon University and Studiosity are safeguarding degree value in the age of AI, this session explores how specialist institutions use Studiosity’s "Support and Validate" framework to protect human capability and reduce educator workload. 

Led by Graeme Kirk, the session will be an informal, structured discussion, with Lydia Arnold, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching and Digital) at Harper Adams University, the discussion will explore:

  • The tension between "police and punish" approaches and productive struggle
  • The impact of AI and assessment practices on student wellbeing
  • How to scaffold learning without encouraging cognitive offloading
  • Moving from surveillance towards student-led verification and validation
  • How institutions can maintain trust and educator choice in an AI-enabled environment

The session will provide space for GuildHE members to share perspectives and consider how these approaches might work within their own institutional contexts.
